President Lai Ching-te said he looked forward to creating more cooperative opportunities with Czechia, according to the Presidential Office.

Lai made the remarks while conferring the Order of Brilliant Star with Special Grand Cordon on Markéta Pekarová Adamová, former president of the Czech Chamber of Deputies, Jan. 20 at the PO in Taipei City. Prominent guests at the ceremony included David Steinke, representative of the Czech Economic and Cultural Office Taipei, and Marcin Mateusz Jerzewski, head of the Taiwan Office of the European Values Center for Security Policy, the PO said.

Lai praised Adamová for leading a delegation of more than 160 lawmakers to Taiwan three years ago. He thanked her for supporting cross-strait peace, Indo-Pacific security, Taiwan-friendly resolutions in the Czech Parliament and Taiwan’s participation in international organizations, as well as assisting Taipei-headquartered National Palace Museum with its exhibition last year in Prague, the PO added.

The president said bilateral cooperation has deepened in aviation, technology, trade and investment in recent years, adding that growing Taiwanese investment in Czechia demonstrates the strong potential for robust long-term economic partnership.

In response, Adamová noted that Czech history has shaped her deep commitment to defending democracy, human rights and national self-determination. She described Taiwan as an innovative and resilient democracy that continues to thrive despite challenges. (POC-E)
